A solitary leaf rests on a fallen log at Warren Woods State Park on an October afternoon. The more than 300 acre tract of land located, off Warren Woods Road and designated as a National Natural Landmark, was originally purchased in 1879 by Edward Kirk Warren for the production of charcoal. The realization that it contained a stand of virgin hardwood changed Warren's mind and the land remains undeveloped to this day.
